Lockdown - what are we up to?

Date Published: 24/04/2020 11:07

As we continue working for our clients, we take a look at what our staff are up to in the new way of living and working.

Our first installment comes from our financial adviser Emma Baumback (and her dog Barney)

As I approached the farmer's field when taking my daily evening walk with my dog Barney, I stopped at the curb to look around.  Not a person in sight, just the sound of the birds in the trees and the rumble of the tractor in the distance.

At that point it really hit home the impact coronavirus has had on our world and made me wonder whether things will ever be the same again?

About half of the world’s population is in lockdown.  I think it goes without saying, keeping away from our friends and loved ones is tough but we all have a responsibility to stay at home, follow the restrictions and wait for the numbers to level out.

At Future Life it's business as usual, we haven’t shut our doors, our clients need us.  Whilst the views from our chairs may be different, we are here, taking control and looking after clients and their finances during these unprecedented times.

My career in this industry, as of last month, reached its 10 year mile stone and its never been busier than days I am facing right now.  Whilst in part that is helping those who now have more time on their hands to take a ‘spring clean’ of their finances, but is also the contact we are making to check on our clients and their families.

Going day to day without seeing a familiar face, or even a new face is difficult, but what I have certainly learned is that picking up the phone to clients has lifted my spirits, and hopefully theirs.

It has been difficult to hear and share with one another the effect this virus is having, clients have lost jobs, family members have been unwell, hard earned trips have been cancelled.  But in each telephone call there is sense of hope and determination to fight through this.

The next few months and beyond will be hard.  But we are optimists and together we will win the war against the coronavirus.  In the meantime, let’s keep talking, reaching out and keep supporting each other.
