We are honoured that our MD Jillian Thomas was asked to represent business on a prestigious podcast organised by the Parliamentary Review office. The podcast also featured Lord David Blunkett.
Jillian says: "You may remember that back in 2017 I had the honour of representing the financial sector in the prestigious Parliamentary Review. The foreword was written by the then Prime Minister Theresa May and the publication was sent to over 250,000 leading business executives and policymakers.
I am now equally honoured to have been asked by the Parliamentary Review office to feature in a podcast on behalf of the Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The other guest is Sheffield’s own Lord David Blunkett. The podcast is part of a nationwide effort to chronicle the realities of British leadership as we begin the third decade of this century.
To that end it was my pleasure earlier today to speak to Matthew O'Neill on behalf of the Parliamentary Review,
We spoke about starting the business nearly ten years ago, immediately after the banking crisis, the decisions made to grow the business and how we find and nurture future team members.
We talked about how we need to grow our own employees, and train from within, where historically the training grounds were the insurance companies.
The one lesson I have learned is not to be frightened of employing someone who is better than me – this allows the business to benefit."
Podcast host Matthew O'Neill said: “Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.”
Lord Blunkett, chairman of The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, said: “I think the most informative element of each episode is the first part, where Matthew O'Neill is able to sit down with someone who really gets how their industry works and knows how to make their organisation tick. Someone who’s there day in day out working hard and inspiring others. That’s what leadership is all about.”
Jillian has also just been shortlisted as Business Woman of the Year in the East Midlands Chamber Enterprising Women awards 2020.
